Winter League Match 6, Sun 6th March 2016  –  Jubilee Lake

Considering the hard frost we had the night before it turned out to be quite a nice day.

Its a shame that only 5 of us made the effort to come as it turned out we had some good sport on the Pole.

With a star performance from Matt Vincent who was bagging all the way through the match. Also lucky enough to draw the Golden Peg and win the prize pot.

1st Matt Vincent with 29lb 10oz 0dr – Peg 9

Winter League Match 5, Sun 21st February 2016, Raychem Lagoon

5 x NWMC members made the effort for what we knew was going to be a tough match.

It was a very cold and windy day but it was reasonably sheltered. The water was clear to 4 feet and the lake bed was a little weedy.

All this making it a tough nut to crack.

Congratulations to Lee who managed to catch the only fish of the match, 10 minutes before the whistle.

A nice Bream on cage feeder with double pinkie.

1st Lee Chilley with 3lb 8oz  – Peg 16

Winter League Match 4

5 x NWMC members and 5 x Lechlade anglers.

Congratulations to Roger and Kevin who fished very well considering the weather condition.

1st Roger Giles with 6lb 5oz 8dr – Peg 3

2nd Kevin Bamford 6llb 4oz 8dr  – Peg 12

Kevin drew the Golden peg but missed out on collecting an extra £32 by 1oz!

The weather was drizzly and cloudy to start with, but it didn’t do much to warm the place up. The few days leading up to the match were very cold, with clear frosty nights and mornings.

I for one was glad I put on the one-piece thermals.

Because Roger and I are the only ones I believe to have fished the venue once before, we were uncertain how to peg it. So I spread the pegs out as much as possible to give everyone some space.

John and I also agreed that a Rover type match would at least give everyone a chance to fish where they wanted to. This depending on which draw position number they pulled out of the bag of course.

We had five regulars from Lechlade join us in the match. Thanks for joining us guys, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Weights were 2lb 8 oz and upward which I am sure is more than we would have caught on any local lake that day.

Some of us lost a few very nice fish due to using much finer tackle (me included). And a couple of the lads had some mini battles with jack pike. But that’s river fishing for you!

All five NWMC anglers chose to have their league points added by paying the fee, and have been awarded points as follows.

Winter League Match 3 – Silvers Only

8 Anglers

1st Mike Chilley with 2lb 4oz 0dr – Peg 9

2nd John Wagner with 1llb 10oz 8dr  – Peg 2

3rd Lee Chilley with 1lb 6oz 0dr – Peg 3

The weather was drizzly and cloudy to start with a low 8mph wind and no gusts. Later in the day there was a little sunshine with hardly a breeze.

We avoided the end pegs as much as possible to keep away from any Carp shoals.

Unfortunately that wasn’t the case for Mike Morton and Mick Baker on pegs 13 and 14 who were sacking up. I think they enjoyed themselves, but were a little frustrated that they couldn’t get through the carp to get at the silvers no matter what they tried.

The fishing was pretty hard for everyone else on the lake and neighbouring Stait which fished in a similar fashion. We had one new visitor wishing to join the club, please welcome Mike Smith.

The Café arranged some hot food and drink after the match and we had a Christmas raffle with some lovely prizes.

A very warm thank you to all who donated. We raised £30 for the club, this money will pay for the Supercup entry fee in the Spring.

6 anglers chose to have their league points added by paying the fee, and have been awarded points as follows.

Winter League 1, Ivy House Lakes, Sun 11th October 2015

11 Anglers

1st Craig Reeves with 50lb 14oz – Peg 20

2nd Roger Giles with 46llb 0oz – Peg 18

3rd Lee Chilley with 24lb 10oz – Peg 16

The weather was chilly to start with and the lake was flat calm. Later in the day there was a little sunshine with a light breeze. We were spread out around the whole of match lake. Made a change to see what everyone else was doing.

This was a double header match, whereby points were allocated to both carp and silvers nets. The points for each category were then added together to determine position. As suspected the fish are beginning to shoal up with Carp at one end of the lake in one corner and the silvers at the other.

Craig and Roger did very well at the end of the session. If we had stayed another hour would probably have doubled their weight. Roger had a few large fish up to 14lb. Matt at the other end of the lake had a lovely 19lb bag of silvers with two Perch heading towards the 2lb mark.

Where as the other two opposite corners unfortunately fished very hard. 10 anglers chose to have their league points added by paying the fee, and have been awarded points as follows.

Summer League Match 6

9 Anglers

1st Paul Dressler with 72lb 2oz

2nd Lee Chilley with 33llb 10oz

The weather was lovely with a light breeze with sunny spells. We chose not to include the first two and last two pegs of the Red Lane to make the match fairer.

We also made this a double header match, whereby points were allocated to both carp and silvers nets. The points for each category were then added together to determine position. Interestingly, if everyone paid there would have been four anglers with top points!

6 anglers chose to have their league points added by paying the fee, and have been awarded points as follows.

Name                           Points

Paul Dressler                   20

Lee Chilley                       20

John Wagner                   19

Mick Chilley                     18

Roger Giles                      17

Matt Vincent                   16

After counting up the top five match scores, the winner and runner up of NWMC Summer League 2015 is;

1st Paul Dressler = 93 Points

2nd Lee Chilley = 92 Points

Summer League Update

With the final summer league match remaining (Ridgway Fisheries), the overall table suggests a straight battle between leader Lee Chilley (86 points) and Roger Giles (84 points) for the league win. However, with only the best 5 results from 6 counting, the league table looks a little different if we view it as (currently stands) best 4 from 5, dropping lowest scores:

  1. Paul Dressler (73 pts)
  2. Lee Chilley (72 pts)
  3. Roger Giles & Matt Vincent (69 pts)

So if everyone turns up for the final match, it is realistically between 4 anglers for the victory.

Summer League Match 5

1st Roger Giles with 21lb 12oz

2nd Lee Chilley with 17llb 4oz

We had heavy rain for the first four hours of the match. It didn’t top the lake up much though, which was still about 18 inches down despite all the rain we had in the previous two weeks.

The fishing was difficult even though there were plenty of fish moving about. A lot of small stockies caught on pole. Majority of the larger fish were caught on the feeder.

All 5 anglers chose to have their league points added by paying the fee and have been awarded as follows.

Name                                 Points

Roger Giles                         20

Summer League Match 4.

7 Anglers

1st Paul Dressler Peg 17 with 121lb 12oz

2nd Lee Chilley Peg 9 with 55llb 12oz

The weather was a mix of sunshine at first, then misty rain, windy then back to glorious sunshine again. Good old blighty.

The best Carp weights were at the high numbers as expected. Some good silver fish catches by Mike and Mick again, 17lb 8oz and 12lb 8oz.

Mick and I had shed loads of silvers in our swim and no matter what we tried or used we caught mostly roach. Unfortunately most of them bounced off the end due to the heavy elastic. You would not think a 4oz roach would take a whole Dendrobena or 9 maggots on a size 12 hook with 0.16 hook length would you? Mad!!!

Paul Dressler showed great skill with paste fishing to weigh in with the biggest haul of the season so far,

All seven anglers chose to have their league points added by paying the fee and have been awarded as follows.

Name                                 Points

Paul Dressler                      20

Summer League Match 3.

10 Anglers

1st Dave Parmenter Peg 4 with 23lb 6oz

2nd Kevin Bamford  Peg 1 with 21llb 2oz

The weather was kind to us for a change, no rain or high winds!

Some decent sized Carp were showing in places. There was also a good supply of small Tench and a few decent Bream which put up a better scrap than the small carp.

Mike Morton was very unlucky to lose what would have been the largest fish of the match. It flipped out of his landing net while being unhooked. John estimated the fish to be in the teens. Unlucky Mike.

It was Dave’s first visit to one of our club matches and he framed. Nice one Dave, we will have to keep an eye on you.

The middle section of the canal fished the hardest yet again. Best weights were at the furthest end of the canal.

All ten anglers chose to have their league points added by paying the fee and have been awarded as follows.
